Today is March 15.
Today’s post is dedicated to my dad, David Cornelius. I hope you’re reading, Dad.
Dad always liked March 15. He always liked March 4 too, but I missed that one. (It’s the only day of the year that’s a command, march fourth. Yes, I know. All right, everybody, all together now, laugh. Hah, hah, hah.)
Now that we I got that out of our my system I’ll talk a little about March 15. If I remember correctly it is a day that is a warning as in “Beware the Ides of March.” It is the day Julius Caesar was assassinated. So I first learned about that from my dad, not an English or history teacher.
I just looked up “Ides of March” on the internet to make sure I had my facts straight, and I learned something real interesting over at Wikipedia. The 15th of March, May, July, and October were all called the “ides” while the 13th of the other months were called the “ides.” Click on the word “wikipedia” in the previous sentence to go to that page and learn lots more cool, interesting information. Like, for example, they have a toga run every year on this day through the streets of Rome. Toga run in your town, anyone?
